February 3rd 2011 · 0 Comments
The car audio segment is flooded with third-party iPod car kits that help you listen music from your iPod via the standard car stereo system like the cassette-tape deck, CD player or DVD Players.
In 2005, Apple announced deals with major automobile companies including Mercedes-Benz Volvo, Nissan, Ferrari Audi, Honda, and Volkswagen to integrate iPod into their car stereos covering around 30% of the US car market.
Today, Apple signed additional iPod integration deals with auto majors Ford, GM and Mazda which essentially means that 70% of the cars in US will have iPod inbuilt integration before they roll out of the factory.
It may be a big threat to satellite radio companies like XM or Sirius as they will have to find more creative ways to catch the car driver’s attention.
The iPod integration news may be music to the ears of iPod fans but the iPod kit companies should strong consider diversifying into other buinesses.
What is your opinion – Will this iPod factory attachment influence your car or truck buying decision ?
